Accounting for half of the global market, China’s cotton textile manufacturing industry holds an important position in the international trade. Over the last decade, the total amount of imported and exported Chinese cotton textiles and apparel has increased steadily. In 2011, the total value of imports and exports reached $95 billion; and from January to October, 2012 the value increased slightly from the same period last year. The China cotton textile industry plays an increasingly important role in the global market and in shaping international cooperation.
Since the second half of 2011, the trade patterns for China’s cotton textiles have changed slightly. Due to the high price of domestic cotton, the demand for lower priced imported cotton and low thread count cotton yarn have increased dramatically.
